Star Motorcycles, which is the individual brand for cruiser offerings for the American market from the stables of Yamaha; have unveiled updated variants of the Bolt and Bolt R.  Both the new bikes belong to the “Bobber’ genre of cruisers, which are essentially stripped down cruisers to keep the weight as low as possible. The updated version of the Star Bolt and Bolt R feature revised instrument cluster to offer better visibility while riding under daylight, wave type brake rotors (petal discs), blacked out rear view mirrors. Other cosmetic updates include LED tail lamp and the Bolt R sports a suede texture seat with coloured stitching alongwith new paint schemes and graphics.

On the mechanical front, the Star Bolt and the Bolt R are powered by a 950cc, air-cooled, V-twin producing 80Nm of torque and power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via a five-speed gearbox. According to the manufacturer, the engine has been designed to provide quick acceleration and offer low-end torque in tune with the Bobber characteristics. Also to reduce friction loss, special roller-type rocker arms with needle bearings have been employed.

Suspension duties are taken care of by 41mm telescopic front forks and dual shock absorbers at rear. Braking is done via 298mm petal-shaped disc brakes at front and rear. The fuel tank capacity of both the bikes is 12.1 litres and has a wet weight of 245kg. The bikes will be on sale in the US market from July 2014 onwards. The Star Bolt has been priced at Rs 4.73 lakh and the Star Bolt R will retail for Rs 4.97 lakh in US (both prices are exclusive of taxes and duties).
