Mercedes-Benz has sensed that the pre-owned car segment has immense potential in India. The luxury carmaker has, therefore, decided to launch a separate division for its pre-owned cars in the country later this month.

Big players in the market such as Maruti, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Mahindra already have their own used car divisions in the country. By planning to launch a separate brand for pre-owned cars in India, Mercedes-Benz plans to bring more customers under its umbrella.

Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, stated that the growth rate of pre-owned cars in India is phenomenal and the company has seen 45 per cent growth in this segment this year. He further stated that by launching a pre-owned car brand in India, Mercedes-Benz, will take the next big step in this business segment.

Mercedes-Benz will be doing its pre-owned car business with its existing 68 dealers who will offer effective trading prices to its customers. The luxury carmaker will focus at both metro and non-metro cities for the sale of its premium cars and also aim at increasing its product portfolio while bringing in latest technology to India.

Kern said that Mercedes-Benz gets 55 per cent of its total volume from non-metro cities while the rest comes from metros such as Mumbai and Delhi. He also mentioned that the company gains three-fourth of its business from leasing and financing while one-fourth of its business comes from cash.

Mercedes-Benz has 68 dealerships in 37 cities at present. The luxury carmaker has opened 13 outlets this year in the country.
