Nissan teases Vision Gran Turismo concept

With the number of Vision Gran Turismo concepts being unveiled in recent weeks, it’s about time that Nissan, which is involved more closely with the game’s developer Polyphony Digital, got in on the action. The Japanese carmaker has released a graphic celebrating its involvement in the Gran Turismo racing game franchise, and in it teased a new mystery car that would be added to its long list of Gran Turismo contributions.

As part of the award-winning gaming franchise’s 15th birthday, creator Kazunori Yamauchi has had automaker design studios pen radical concepts that will be made available to gamers via online updates to Gran Turismo 6 (GT6). But apart from just a styling exercise and tool with which to dominate racing events on GT6, the Nissan Vision GT is also believed to preview the company’s next halo model – the R36 GT-R.

The bodyshell and the headlights shown in the teaser photo resemble current Nissan GT-R styling. Doing away with a conventional grille, the car uses aggressive front air intakes built into the fenders and nose, along with side air intake in front of the rear wheels. The body shape looks like it has been designed specifically for aerodynamic performance.

Nissan will be the fifth brand to debut their Vision GT car. Manufacturers who currently have Vision GT cars in the game are Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Mitsubishi. Additional information about the Nissan Vision Gran Turismo concept will be released on June 16, 2014.
