Manufacturers hiking price to offset the impact of rupee depreciation and rising input cost

Hero MotoCorp Pawan Munjal with Hero Karizma ZMR

Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler maker, has increased the price across its motorcycle and scooter range. The company’s products ranges from the Hero HF Dawn priced at Rs 37,900 to Hero Karizma ZMR which costs Rs 1.01 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The hike is between Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per unit, and the reason cited for the price hike is to offset the impact of rising input costs and rupee depreciation.

Recently, Bajaj Auto had also shown concern over the rise in input cost, hinting to increase the prices of its vehicles across segments soon. However, Bajaj might increase the price post the festive season keeping consumer sentiments in mind. Other manufactures like TVS Motor and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India are also expected to follow suit and increase their vehicle prices similarly between 0.5 to 1 per cent.

In the four-wheeler segment, auto majors like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Mahindra & Mahindra and Nissan have already announced a price hikes on their respective car models.
