TVS Racing signs first woman rider

Shreya Sunder Iyer has become the first woman rider to be a part of any racing team in India by putting pen to paper for leading Indian two-wheeler motorsport team TVS Racing on Tuesday, informed a press release. The 24-year-old will be a part of the TVS Racing team for the Indian National Rally championship this year.

Having started riding at the tender age of 17, Shreya is the first Indian female rider to successfully complete a ride across the sand dunes in Dubai. The Bengaluru-girl has also ridden extensively across the country, including the isolated Suru valley in the Himalayas and has also completed a rigorous Southern India biking expedition of 2,000 km in just 6 days, added the release.

The young female racer is evidently thrilled after signing for TVS Racing and is looking forward to her new stint. “This association will help me work with the best in class machines, racers and technology. I also hope to encourage young bikers especially women to follow their passion for racing and live their dreams,” said Shreya.

Head of Team TVS Racing, Arvind Pangaonkar believes that this association will go a long way into promoting two-wheeler racing in India. “We are happy to sign Shreya for the TVS Racing team and believe that her participation will encourage women to consider racing as a career,” he said.
