Troy Bayliss

In what seems to be a script from a Hollywood blockbuster, Troy Bayliss has announced that he will race in the upcoming round of the 2015 World Superbike championship (WSBK). What makes the comeback even more special for the 45 year old veteran is the fact that he will be racing in front of his home fans at Phillip Island in Australia. Bayliss has come back from retirement to race as a substitute for Davide Giugliano, who was injured in a crash past Monday. The crash has resulted in Giugliano break two vertebrae bones and he has been ruled out for three months.

The immediate replacement for Giugliano was Ducati MotoGP test rider Michele Pirro but he has been busy with preseason testing and this opened a window of opportunity for Bayliss. The three time WSBK champion will be returning to the sport after a gap of seven years and will be riding the Ducati 1199 Panigale R. The biggest challenge for Bayliss would be to adapt to the track-spec Ducati 1199 Panigale R given the short time period he has on hand. Bayliss will race only at the Phillip Island round as Pirro would replace in the remainder three races of the season. It will be a momentous opportunity for the Australian motorsport aficionados to witness the WSBK legend live in action and whether or not he will taste success only time will tell but one has to applaud the determination and hunger of the 45 year veteran for his determination and hunger for the sport.
