Seems Triumph Motorcycles is the latest victim of the bureaucratic hassle that many manufacturers face in our country. The British bikemaker had announced in 2012 that it would be setting up a plant in Narasapura industrial area in Kolar district (about 50km from Bengaluru). It had planned to acquire 30-acre plot for the same purpose and the total investment for the project amounted to Rs 850 crore in two phases. The manufacturing plant was supposed to have a production capacity of 2,50,000 units per annum and would have also created many employment opportunities. But the land acquisition process hasn’t been initiated by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). Triumph in fact had also made advance payment to the Karnataka Government for the same and despite paying the amount; the land hasn’t been allotted yet.
Owing to the above, it is reported that the British two-wheeler brand is planning to shift to Haryana and end its association with the Karnataka Government. Triumph currently has a manufacturing unit in Manesar and will be investing to expand its plant and increase its capacity. The same was hinted by Vimal Sumbly, MD Triumph India when in an interaction with the press he had said that the Karnataka investment wasn’t the priority for the company. The premium two-wheeler manufacturer has also sought a refund of the investments made on the Narasapura plant thereby hinting that it isn’t keen to pursue its plans in Karnataka.
