Nakagawa said the car is being developed on a completely new platform, and the engine is likely to be in the 1.3 litre capacity range. He did not disclose the details about the likely pricing of the car. "Though the car is being strategically developed for India, we may export it to markets where there would be a demand," he said.
Nakagawa said the company is building another manufacturing facility close to its existing one at Bidadi near Bangalore. This facility will have a capacity to make 70,000 cars to begin with and the capacity will soon be increased 300,000 over four phases, Nakagawa informed, adding that an investment of Rs 3000 crore is envisaged for the first phase of the facility.
Nakagawa said moves are on to get into India the parent Toyota's financial services arm in the run up to the launch of the small car.
