Ford's new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has been named the 2014 International Engine of the Year for the third consecutive year

Ford 1.0-litre EcoBoost wins 2014 International Engine of the Year award

A small petrol engine that powers Ford cars including the new Ford Ecosport has fought off competition from premium brands and supercars to win the 2014 International Engine of the Year award for an unprecedented third time in a row.

The small, three-cylinder engine also received two other awards – ‘Best New Engine’ and ‘Best Engine Under 1.0-litre’ – in the awards presented by Engine Technology International magazine, based on votes cast by 76 journalists from 35 countries around the world.

The jury awarded 351 points to the EcoBoost engine which placed itself on top of the overall rankings and was streets ahead of the second-placed Ferrari 4.5-litre V8 engine which scored 281 points. Volkswagen's 1.4-litre TSI twin-charged engine came third with 254 points.

Currently, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost powers the Ford Ecosport and nine other global models- Ford Fiesta, Ford B-MAX, Ford Focus, Ford C-MAX and Ford Grand C-MAX, Ford Tourneo Connect, Ford Grand Tourneo Connect, Ford Transit Connect and Ford Transit Courier. Ford 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has won 17 major awards across the globe since its international debut in 2012.

Ford's EcoBoost engine is manufactured only in three countries Chongqing in China, Cologne in Germany and Craiova in Romania. The engine, however, is being used and appreciated in over 72 countries around the globe.
