Triumph India MD Vimal Sumbly with the Custom Bonnie

The customized Triumph Bonneville was showcased at Triumph’s India Bike Week 2015 stall, and from the attention it was getting, it’s not difficult to understand why.

Rugged and mean, the custom Bonnie is most certainly a scrambler inspiration. In fact, a new exhaust system along with mufflers is lifted from a stock 2006 Triumph Scrambler. The high strung scrambler exhausts gel well with the custom seat and gives the motorcycle an overall 'dirt ready' look.

The small stock wheels have been swapped with off-road wheels and Heidenau off-road tyres giving the bike increased ground clearance, and improved off-roading capabilities.  A wide motocross styled handlebar, race plate, headlight housing, off-road grips, scrambler levers and foot pegs complete the rugged look.

Jaipur-based custom motorcycle builder Rajputana Customs completed the build in two months after Triumph Motorcycles India commissioned the build.

“The folks at Triumph India told us we were free to do whatever we liked and they let us loose on the Bonneville. After having stripped her of a few parts we decided to go with a 'scrambler' look and Triumph was more than on board with the plan,” said Vijay Singh of Rajputana Customs.

Triumph though has no plans of introducing a factory scrambler in India. The custom Bonneville is a celebration of the British brand completing a year’s operations in India and goes on to just highlight the fact that the Bonnie provides a perfect platform for customization.

“The idea was to give creative freedom to Rajputana Customs but also to ensure the final design celebrated our cult favourite motorcycle the Bonneville and its true essence. The platform for the Bonneville is extremely modification friendly and gives riders a unique opportunity to customize it to individual tastes,” said Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India.

It certainly turned heads at the IBW, but to us, this custom Bonnie didn’t quite look the part standing still at the Triumph stall. It’s definitely meant for better things than posing and it’s about time we got our hands on this baby and get dirty with it, so keep watching this space.
