Tata unveiled its range-extended electric vehicle concept, the Megapixel, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This marks the debut of the car in the UK, one of the potential markets where the production model of the concept will be sold.

The Megapixel concept takes its inspiration from the Pixel concept that Tata showcased at the Geneva Motor Show last year, which in turn was a specced up version of the Nano Europa concept that was showcased at Geneva in 2010. The Megapixel is a proper concept car, with features that would probably not make it to the production model,  as the sliding front and rear doors and the ‘floating’ seats (which are fixed on to the centre console) may be too expensive to be put in a affordable city hatch that Tata envisions the Megapixel to become.

The concept uses four electric motors, one at each wheel, which enables it to reach a top speed of nearly 110km/h, in contrast to the three-cylinder turbodiesel engine that the pixel concept used. In the pure electric mode, it can travel a claimed 87km. After the battery is depleted, a 325cc one-cylinder engine powers the generator that extends its range to 900km. The other interesting feature of the concept is the fact that it emits only 22g/km of C02.
