Suzuki Swift sales reaches the five million mark

Maruti Suzuki launched the Swift hatchback little over a decade ago and it took the Indian auto industry by storm. The Swift transformed the perception of the hatchback from being a staid family car to a good looking, well handling youthful machine. It paved the way for cars like Polo and i20 whilst making adding aspirational value to the hatchback segment as a whole. Today after eleven years in production, the Swift has crossed the five million sales mark globally. India accounts for 54 percent of the total sales of the Swift which comes up to 2.7 million units of the Swift and the Swift Dzire combined. 

The Swift Dzire too was a game changer in the Indian automotive market as it was the first sub-four metre sedan in the country and helped coin the entry level sedan segment in India and unsurprisingly many other manufacturers quickly followed suit. The most popular variants of the Seift and the Swift Dzire have always been the ones powered by the 1.3-litre diesel engine which has proven itself over and over for its fun to drive character and frugality.
