Maruti Suzuki India has been forced to temporarily stop production at its Manesar and Gurgaon facilities following a severe fire at Subros Limited’s plant. Subros Ltd. is an air-conditioning kit supplier that supplies kits chiefly to manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, though manufacturers like Mahindra & Mahindra, Force Motors, Renault India, and Daimler Commercial Vehicles also source these AC kits.

The cause of fire is believed to be a short circuit which took place in Subros’ premises. The incident took place on the evening of May 29, Sunday, and the dry winds in the NCR region escalated the fires.

Maruti Suzuki India has addressed the issue, stating: “Owing to an unfortunate incident of a fire at the Manesar facilities of our supplier, M/s Subros Limited, on Sunday (May 29), supplies of components from that plant have been disrupted. As a consequence, Maruti Suzuki India will have to temporarily suspend manufacture of cars at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon, starting second half Monday (May 30). Subros Ltd and Maruti Suzuki are jointly assessing the extent of damage to essential equipment. We are also examining the options available to start supply of components from other facilities. Production will resume as soon as components become available.”

However, Subros has two other manufacturing facilities, in collaboration with Denso, in Noida, and till its Manesar plant resumes normal operation it will cope with the demand from these facilities. In addition to these, Subros Ltd. also has its factories in Pune, Chennai, and Sanand. With an annual capacity of 1.5 million AC kits per annum, they are the leading manufacturers of thermal products for cars and commercial vehicles in the country.
