DSK Motowheels, owned by the diversified conglomerate DSK Group, plans to invest Rs 400 crore to set up a plant near Pune to manufacture recently unveiled superbikes of Italian brand Benelli and Korean brand Hyosung. "We are in the process of building a full new unit in Maharashtra, very close to our current plant in Pune. For a start, we are looking at 120,000 units per shift and will be ready for production in the next two years," Shivapada Ray, chief operating officer of DSK Motowheels told ETAuto.

The existing unit, where the company currently assembles Hyosung bikes, has a single shift capacity of about 3,000 bikes a year, Ray said, adding that with a double shift production will increase to 5,000 units. The unit will, therefore, suffice for one year, he said. The company recently signed a manufacturing and sales agreement with Benelli, which marked its entry into Asia with its India foray. DSK Benelli India recently showcased five bikes which will make their way into the domestic market.

The company will launch Tornado Naked Tre, TNT 302, TNT 600i, TNT 899 and the TNR 1130 R in the coming year. The first Benelli product to be launched will be the Cruiser Blackster in February, followed by the sports bike TN 225. "We will open separate dealerships for Benelli and we don't see any overlap with Hyosung," said Ray. "From DSK Hyosung stable, the company will launch new Hyosung GD 250N by March and 250R will also come around that time," he added.
