A new variant of the uber successful Hyundai i20 has been spotted doing the testing rounds in southern Spain. Judging by the pictures, this new car is said to be the upcoming high powered i20 variant which will also get the Turbo nomenclature like the Veloster and the i30 before it. The new Hyundai i20 Turbo will feature a few changes from the current car that will be more performance oriented.
For starters, the new i20 Turbo test mule seems to be wearing a more aggressive body kit or front splitter that will help with both sporty looks and increase aerodynamics. The new Hyundai i20 Turbo will also possibly get a more aggressive front grille, side skirts and a roof mounted spoiler. Also expect a more contoured rear bumper with the possibility of an inbuilt diffuser. The body changes will feature on both the 4-door hatchback found in India and the 2-door coupe hatchback which hasn’t been launched in India yet.
The identity of the engine is not known at this point, but the i20 Turbo could use a detuned version of the 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine from its bigger brother, the i30 Turbo. The i30 Turbo’s 1.6 makes 186PS of peak power and 265Nm of peak torque. If this turns out to be true, the i20 Turbo will likely have atleast 150PS which will make it extremely exciting and fast. We just hope that Hyundai also works on upgrading both the suspension and the handling of the i20 to match the kind of power it will put through its front wheels,
