Demand for full faired motorcycles are on an all time high as most of the two-wheeler consumers associate full fairing with performance and have a sort of fairing fixation. We list down the top 5 cheapest fully faired motorcycles on sale in the Indian market currently (Note: All prices are ex-showroom Delhi)

Suzuki Gixxer SF

Suzuki Gixxer SF

Price: Rs 83,400

We start off proceedings from the Suzuki Gixxer SF which is currently the cheapest full faired motorcycle on sale in our country. The Suzuki Gixxer has been a great success story for the Japanese two-wheeler giant and the Suzuki Gixxer SF is a full faired version of the 155c streetbike that has been much-admired by auto journos. The fairing has added 4kg weight to the Gixxer SF but has also improved the aerodynamics of the bike. Suzuki says the aerodynamic full sport fairing has been developed in the same wind tunnel where the legendary Hayabusa, GSX-R and MotoGP machines have been developed.

The Gixxer SF shares the same heart as that of the naked Gixxer – a 154.9cc single-cylinder, air-cooled four stroke engine that makes 14.8PS at 8,000rpm and 14Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. The Suzuki Gixxer SF will have a 5-6 per cent advantage over the top speed of the Gixxer - that would be close to 130kmph. The Gixxer SF will be available in three colours - metallic triton blue (Moto GP edition), pearl mirage white and glass sparkle black. The Moto GP edition commemorates Suzuki's return to Moto GP in 2015. However, there are no mechanical changes to this edition. Also Read: Suzuki Gixxer SF Special Coverage

Hero Karizma ZMR

Hero Karizma ZMR

Price: Rs 1.05 lakh

The updated Hero Karizma ZMR was launched last year with cosmetic and mechanical updates. The styling of the bike has been a controversial one, some like it, some don't, but everyone seems to have an opinion on it.  Its major design highlight is the vertically stacked twin-headlamp which has been clearly inspired from Erick Buell Racing’s 1190RX superbike. The party piece of the bike is the LED daylight running lamp (DRL) running above the indicators and it definitely attracts eyeballs. The new Hero Karizma ZMR is powered by a 223cc, air-cooled, fuel injected mill with an oil cooler pushing out 20PS at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 19.7Nm at 6,500rpm.

This is the same engine as on the older ZMR but it now produces 2PS more power. The torque is marginally up too; by 1Nm. The full fairing, decently powerful motor and comfortable riding ergonomics do make the Hero Karizma ZMR a decent touring motorcycle. But the unrefined powerplant alongwith unimpressive fit-and-finish is a let-down but overall for the price, the Hero Karizma ZMR does offer fantastic value for money.

Yamaha R15

Yamaha R15 version 2.0

 Price: Rs 1.14 lakh

The first generation Yamaha R15 was a sort of revelation for Indian two-wheeler enthusiast. Finally they had a motorcycle which was developed for burning rubber on the race track without costing a fortune to own. The only qualm was the styling of the bike with the skinny tyres and tail section sticking out like a sore thumb. Yamaha India fixed that issue as they introduced the Yamaha R15 version 2.0. With its Yamaha R6 inspired styling, the Yamaha R15 version 2.0 does highly score on the visual appeal front and that’s among the major reasons for it being so popular among the youth.

But it is not only show and not go when it comes to the Yamaha R15. As the Delta box frame adopted from the flagship R1 superbike endows the Yamaha R15 version 2.0 with brilliant handling dynamics. Although it is powered by a puny 150cc powerplant, the 136kg kerb weight bestows the bike with brilliant straight line speeds also.  Powering the bike is a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected motor churning out 17PS at 8,500rpm and 15Nm at 7,500rpm.

Bajaj pulsar RS200 action

Bajaj pulsar RS200

Price: Rs 1.18 lakh (standard) and Rs 1.3 lakh (ABS variant)

The Bajaj Pulsar RS200 has to be among the most highly awaited motorcycles to enter the Indian two-wheeler market in 2015.Tagged as the fastest Pulsar yet with a claimed top speed of 141kmph, the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 is available in two variants. The Bajaj Pulsar RS200 is the first fully faired motorcycle to be launched by the Chakan based two-wheeler manufacturer. Powering the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 will be the same powerplant as found on the Pulsar 200NS. What sets apart the Pulsar RS200 motor is the fact that it will be fuel-injected unlike the carburetted motor as seen on the Pulsar 200NS.

Fuel-injection results in crisper throttle response and avoid cold starting problems alongwith hiking the power output marginally. Providing firepower to the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 will be a 199.5cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected powerplant producing 24.4 PS of power at 9,750rpm and 18.6 Nm of torque at 8,000rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via a six-speed gearbox. In the looks department, the new Bajaj Pulsar RS200 is pretty similar to the SS400 that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The design up front is aggressive and employs a multi-layered full-fairing with dual projector headlamps and LED DRL’s. Keeping to the ‘Race Sport’ tag the new Bajaj Pulsar RS200 comes with front windscreen, split seats and a tall two-piece handlebar. The sharp rear end gets mudguard mounted floating LED tail lamps which looks unique but may not appeal to all. The underbelly exhaust too has been replaced by a conventional single-sided unit with a beefy muffler.

Honda CBR 150R

Price: Rs 1.22 lakh

The Honda CBR 150R is the Japanese two-wheeler giant's attempt to take on the Yamaha R15 version 2.0. It’s the entry-level offering from the CBR family in the Indian two-wheeler market and styling influence from the elder sibling, the Honda CBR 250R can be easily seen. The Honda CBR 150R has a light and compact DOHC 150cc engine which produces a peak power of 17.6PS at 10,500rpm and a maximum torque of 12.66Nm at 8,500rpm. The 6-speed gearbox is mated to the liquid-cooled and fuel-injected powerplant.

Front & rear disc brakes will be standard on the bike, it will also have mono-suspension and wide front and rear tubeless tyres offering better stability while cornering. Although, the Honda CBR 150R isn’t as sporty looking as the Yamaha R15 but on the race track and acceleration off the line, the Honda motorcycle can outrun its Japanese rival. But it isn’t perfect as the switchgear has been pinched straight from the Honda Stunner. So not only does this exude a sense of un-premiumness, it also means that there is no engine kill switch nor is there a pass switch, and in all honestly, at this bike’s price point, it’s rather unforgivable.
