For-Us remains a two-seater and yet there’s very little resemblance to other Smart cars in the stable. At 139.6 inches length, the Smart For-Us is nearly three feet longer than the ForTwo. Its 97.7-inch wheelbase is about two feet longer than the ForTwo. The For-Us also has a two-inch improved ground clearance compared to the ForTwo and Michelin 235/55 R18 off-road tyres for the occasional jaunts over .

The For-Us has a three-foot cargo area that can electrically retract 11 inches for easy access. But the most striking part about the loading bay is that it houses a docking station that can charge two e-bikes on the go. The e-bikes are meant to let passengers reach destinations that are out of bound for cars – for instance, park trails and restricted areas in cities.

The Smart For-Us concept uses a 55kW electric motor and a 17.6 kW/h lithium-ion battery pack capable of developing 130 Nm of torque. The drivetrain is the same that will power the next-gen Smart Fortwo Electric Drive and is capable of propelling the pick up concept at speeds of up to 80 mph (129 kmph). The battery can be recharged from 20 to 80 percent in only three-and-a-half hours while a full charge takes eight hours.

A production version of the Smart For-Us is unlikely in the near future but expect some design and technology cues to find their way in the upcoming ForTwo and four-seater FourFour models due in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
