The new SUV from Skoda gets its name from the Kodiak bear that is found towards the southern coast of Alaska

Skoda Kodiaq

Earlier this year, Skoda took the wraps off the VisionS concept, which not only showcased the design language of all its future vehicles but also forms the base for its upcoming large SUV. Just a few months into its official unveil, Skoda has revealed that the new SUV will carry the Kodaiq moniker.

This upcoming new SUV, Kodiaq gets its name from the ‘Kodiak’ bear that is found near the Alaskan region. The spelling has been derived from the local language Alutiiq. But why name a car after a bear you ask? Well, Skoda believes that its bog new SUV will share some of its characteristics with the big grizzly bear. Size, strength and command of the outdoors are some of the common mannerisms that the two share in common. The new Kodiaq measures over 4.7metres in length and sports a 7-seater layout on the inside. Moreover, just like the bear, the Kodaiq too can take the unexplored path. Another commonality between the Kodiaq car and the Kodiak bear is its massive stance that makes it look intimidating.

Skoda will be launching the Kodiaq with the ‘Discover new Grounds’ tagline. This new SUV from the Czech car maker will be launched in the International market towards the end of this year, however it will only make its way to India by early 2017. This new SUV will sit alongside the new Superb so we can expect it to be priced between Rs 23 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.
