Following the unveiling of the new XE sedan, it seems like Jaguar is getting ready to bring in its next-gen XF too. First introduced in 2008, Jaguar’s mid-size offering is now starting to show its age, especially since the time Mercedes-Benz has brought in the updated E-Class. But, based on the current spy shots, it seems clear that the British car maker is already onto it, and will be bringing in a successor soon.

The new Jaguar XF is expected to be based on the same iQ A1 platform that underpins the new XE and the C-X17 crossover concept previewed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. In fact, the next-gen XF even promises to be lighter and more advanced than the current gen model.

The overall proportions are more or less like the current generation model. The front track has been widened marginally and as opposed to the smaller XE sedan, it gets a less steeply raked rear and a longer boot and overhangs.

Like the smaller XE sedan, the XF is also expected to be offered in a range of engine options. Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is likely to be the base offering. The new XF will also be offered with the 3.0-litre supercharged V6.

The Jaguar XF has been the model to bring the numbers for the company and it reflects on the YoY sales graph. Following the facelift the XF received in 2011, the model is now set for an upgrade. Expect the next-generation Jaguar XF to make its debut in 2016.
