Sailesh Bolisetti secured a second place in a rain soaked season opener of the British GT Championship at Oulton Park. From a good rolling start, driving well in the race, to taking the chequered flag in second place, Bolisetti made all the right moves for his British GT Championship Debut.

The Friday practice session was also on a wet track, which gave the Vizag youngster a good feel of driving the car in bad weather. While cars were going off the track all around him, the Indian lad kept his cool, stuck to the tarmac and made a remarkable start to the season.

“It was really treacherous, I could see cars going off and coming back all over the circuit. I was just focussing on keeping all wheels on the tarmac and keeping my nose out of trouble. It was easier said than done since the bunched-up GT3 cars were throwing up an awful amount of spray” he said.

Things started to get a little complicated for the 2010 VW Polo Cup India champion when the safety car was deployed, as all the cars were bunched up, which meant that he would have to make his way through traffic. To make matters worse, it was time for him to hand over the wheel to his team-mate.

“We lost several crucial seconds getting out of the way and going off the racing line to let the GT3 cars pass. If it wasn’t for that we could have been fighting for the win,” he added.

It was only after the half hour mark in the hour long race that Sailesh could actually get into the pits to hand over the car to his team-mate Phil Glew, whose experience of racing in extreme conditions came in handy and helped the duo gain two places to take them on the second step of the podium.

In what was a season opener full of chaos, Sailesh and Glew worked their way to the second step of the podium driving for the Lotus Sport UK team. The second round of the British GT Championship will be held on the 17th-19th May at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
