Royal Enfield to set up new technology centers, Investing Rs 500 crore

Royal Enfield has announced that it will set up two technology centers. The larger one will be based in Chennai while the smaller one will be based in Leicestershire, UK

Royal Enfield has announced that it will build two new technology centers for R & D purpose. The announcement was made by Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director & CEO, EicherMotors Limited. The larger of the two centers will be based at Old Mahabalipuram Road in Chennai. The Chennai technology center will be spread across 4.5 acre and will be operational by second half of 2016. The smaller satellite technology center will be based in Leicestershire, UK and Royal Enfield claims it will commence operation by end of this year. The new technology centers are part of the Rs 500 crore investments that Royal Enfield has made for development of next generation of motorcycles.

Royal Enfield also announced that they managed to sell over 300,000 units in 2014 and have set themselves a target of 4,50,000 units for 2015. Royal Enfield also recently appointed Rudratej Singh as its new president and hired renowned bike designer Pierre Terblanche last year. Royal Enfield is rumoured to be working on a new adventure motorcycle which will be launched this year and will be christened Himalayan.  Read more about the new Royal Enfiedl Himalayan here

Commenting on Royal Enfield’s performance, Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director & CEO, EicherMotors Limited said, “Royal Enfield continues to grow at a phenomenal pace and this year we have achieved our best ever sales of over 300,000 units. In 2015, we plan to manufacture 450,000 units. With a view to become the leader in the global mid-sized motorcycling, Royal Enfield will build two new technology centers. The larger one will be at a new 4.5 acre property that we have acquired on Old Mahabalipuram Road in Chennai, and will be operational by Q2 2016; a smaller satellite center is being set up in Leicestershire, UK, and will be operational by the end of 2015. These technology centres will significantly enhance our capability to execute our long term product strategy.
