Off-road two-wheeler enthusiasts in India don’t have much to choose from. So far they had the Hero MotoCorp Impulse, which too has gone out of production due to limited demand. But now Royal Enfield seems to have realised the potential this segment holds and are readying the Himalayan to perform off-road duties. The Himalayan has been spotted testing on several occasions, but recently the motorcycle was spied sans camouflage for the first time hinting its launch to be around the corner.
These recent pictures clearly show the design of the bike which has been sketched keeping in mind the varied terrain of the mighty Himalayas. There is a high-mounted mud guard, off-road tyres and a high ground clearance. The Royal Enfield Himalayan also gets a long windscreen and grilles to mount baggage on. Unlike all the Royal Enfield’s on sale currently, the Himalayan will get a monoshock setup at the back.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is expected to come with two engine options – a 750cc twin-cylinder unit and a 410cc single pot powerplant. However, exact details of the Himalayan’s engine are still a little hazy. However, the Chennai-based bike maker has invested Rs 500 crore on the development of this project.
When it is launched later this year or in early 2015, the Royal Enfield Himalayan will be placed above the Continental GT and will be the company’s flagship offering. The Royal Enfield Himalayan is expected to be priced around Rs 2.5 lakh.
