After creating lots of curiosity around the Himalayan, Royal Enfield finally launched the new adventure tourer motorcycle with a bang in Mumbai today. All the motoring scribes were taken aback by the cutthroat pricing of the Himalayan in the Indian market. The Royal Enfield Himalayan has been launched at a price tag of Rs 1,55,545 ex-showroom Maharashtra which translates to Rs 1.78 lakh on-road. In the press kit that was distributed post the price announcement, prices for major metro cities like Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad were mentioned. Curiously though the Royal Enfield Himalayan’s ex-showroom Delhi pricing wasn’t mentioned.
On further probing the Royal Enfield officials we found out that the Himalayan will not go on sale in the capital city of our country. The reasoning given for the above was that Delhi Transport Department doesn’t give approval for launch of new two-wheelers that aren’t BS-IV emission norms compliant. While the BS-IV emission norms for two-wheelers will come in effect from April, 2017 nationally, the Delhi government has decided recently that only BS-IV norms approved new two-wheelers can go on sale. The sudden move has caught the iconic two-wheeler brand as the current engine adheres to BS-III norms and sadly for RE enthusiasts in Delhi they can only go and see the Himalayan at RE dealerships but not get an opportunity to test ride or own it. Royal Enfield officials though have mentioned that they are working on a BS-IV norms amenable 410cc powerplant so that the Himalayan can go on sale in Delhi soon. Watch this space for more updates.
