RotoCross uplifts Mumbai's Motocross fans

Motorsport events supporting good causes are in a sense always blessed with success right at their outset, and for a sport that entails passion and skill in more ways than one, the recently held RotoCross event in Mumbai was a showcase of the country’s talent and abilities even at its grassroot levels.

With over 85 entries in the four wheeler and 65 entries in the two wheeler categories, the RotoCross, which was held in the city of Mumbai (Sion East) for the very first time, came alive when the first motorcyles were flagged off by Puneet Kapoor, Executive Vice President, Kotak Mahindra Bank, one of the chief sponsors of the motocross event.

Participants poured in not just from Mumbai but, also from neighbouring cities like Pune, Nashik and some from as far as Kolhapur. Spectators also came in big numbers to cheer the participants and witness the event. 

All the contenders taking part in the competition were required to take two laps of the set track in the fastest time possible. With 9 categories in the four wheeler segment and 5 categories in the two wheeler segment, the competition was fierce and all the participants were timed to a 100th of a second.

In the two wheeler class, it was Badal Doshi from Navi Mumbai who beat all his opponents and clocked the fastest time at the event with 2 minutes and 11 seconds on his Yamaha YZ250. Being a regular competitor at such events at the national level, his riding skills backed by loads of experience on such surfaces gave him an edge over his competitors.

In the four wheeler cars it was Gaurav Soodan from Pune, who after winning the race in the cars 1601cc up to 2000cc category emerged the fastest driver of the day with a time of 2 minutes & 16 seconds in his Mitsubishi. He was smooth and precise in his maneuvers, allowing him to complete the stipulated two laps in the best time possible. 

Winners from other four wheeler and two wheeler categories include Ganesh Lokhande for the Motorcycles Upto 165cc, Group C – 4 Stroke, Pinkesh Thakkar for the Motorcycles Upto 165cc, Group C – 2 Stroke, and Neville Poonawala for Cars 1401cc Up To 1600cc. Rufina Karmali was the fastest among all the lady contestants.

Seeing the success of the event Mr. Rajendra Datye, President Rotary Club of Deonar said that they would make this an annual event. The proceeds of the event will be used for the various charity drive that the Rotary Club of Deonar is involved in.
