Rolls-Royce will hold a unique online unveiling of the Dawn on September 8. Said to be the convertible version of the Wraith, but we think it will be much more than that

Rolls-Royce Dawn spy shot

Rolls-Royce will be unveiling the Dawn on September 8 in a unique global online event just before it can be seen in the flesh at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Dawn is said to take further the new direction of Rolls-Royce as it moves into the future with its sportier products.

The Wraith was the first fresh face from Rolls-Royce bearing a new athletic body and the Dawn is said to be its convertible version by the automotive media. But considering Rolls-Royce isn’t calling it the Wraith Dropdead Coupe (nomenclature for Rolls-Royce convertibles), we reckon the Dawn will be more than a chopped roof.

This spy shot shows that it looks almost exactly like the Wraith besides the soft cloth roof. Expect it to be fully automated and be inner lined with the most exquisite fabric you can think of. The front may look like the Wraith but the rear will have its own identity as the deck covering the tucked in roof will run long and flush with the boot line and the rest of the apparatus will be designed accordingly to suit its convertible form.

Under the hood of the Dawn will be the same twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V12 with about 630PS of power. The Dawn should do the 0-100 sprint around the 4.4 second mark and have a top speed limited to 250kmph. For a car so cosseting and luxurious, it sure isn’t going to be short on performance.
