BMW’s Z4 GT3 racer has enjoyed a lot of success ever since its debut in 2010. The German carmaker has now decided to step up its success with a GT3-spec M6 coupe which is set to replace the BMW Z4 racer. Teased in a pair of sketches, the new BMW M6 GT3 is currently undergoing development work with road tests to begin in the first quarter of 2015.
Development of the new track car is already in progress and BMW Motorsport is planning to conduct preliminary testing in the first quarter of next year.
The BMW M6 GT3 will be equipped with a 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbocharged engine of the road-going car. The engine will, however, be further modified for racing applications. Moreover, BMW's engineers will also conduct some chassis optimisations to meet racetrack demands and the car will also benefit from race-spec ABS, gearbox and electronics.
BMW says its racing customers will be able to order their cars through 2015, with the cars set to hit worldwide race circuits for the 2016 season.
