Renault India to hike prices by 1.5 per cent from January 2013

Renault India, like Chevrolet, Honda, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz, will raise prices of its vehicles from January 2013. The depreciating value of the rupee and rising input costs have forced car makers in India to hike prices of their vehicles across the board.

Renault will be implementing a 1.5 per cent price hike across its range that consists of the Pulse hatchback, Scala mid-size sedan, Duster SUV, Fluence D-segment sedan and its flagship SUV Koleos. Prices of Renault cars in India range from Rs 4.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the entry level Pulse to Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the Koleos.

Commenting on the price increase Sumit Sawhney, Executive Director, Sales & Marketing said, “We have to follow suit with the rest of the industry as input costs have gone up tremendously. We tried to absorb the increase as much as possible but now we are forced to pass on some of the burden to our customers as high input cost coupled with high inflation are all eating in to our bottom line. But at the same time we have tried our best to keep it at a level where it should not impact demand and we are sure that customers would still see a lot of value in our products.”

Renault India launched its first car in June 2011. The French car maker currently operates 75 dealerships across the country and will take the number up before the end of 2012.
