Renault Kwid hatchback launched in India at Rs 2.56 lakh

The Renault Kwid has officially been launched in India at a price of Rs 2.56 lakh and comes with four variants. The new Renault Kwid will go straight up against the largest selling car in the country, the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the likes of the Hyundai Eon and the Datsun Go.

The Renault Kwid offers a SUV-esque styling that borrows heavily from the likes of the Renault Duster. Although small in overall size, the Renault Kwid looks much larger due to its upright dimensions and chunky design elements that adorn the car. We particularly like the large and in-your-face grille and well crafted headlamps. The new Renault Kwid will also get 13-inch wheels which will be mounted only on three wheel bolts like the Tata Nano in order to keep costs to an absolute minimum.

The new Renault Kwid will also feature a funky and well styled interior that is unlike anything we have seen in the segment. The Kwid features a digital console that includes the speedometer and the fuel gauge while the top of the line variants even get a touchscreen infotainment setup. The Renault Kwid is also much more spacious as compared to most of its competition like the Alto and the Eon and has more space in the boot than the other two too.

The Kwid comes with a frugal 800cc 3-cylinder motor that gets 54Ps of peak power and 72Nm of peak torque. The new engine from Renault gets mated to a five speed manual gearbox but there will also be an AMT model for the Kwid sometime in the near future. Expect the Kwid to do quite well in India mainly due to the fact that it looks like a micro SUV of sorts.
