Renault Kwid

Renault has been doing very well with the overwhelming success of the Kwid compact hatchback. The Kwid is a low-cost practical car ticking the right boxes thus making it an ideal hatchback for the price segment it belongs to. Developed under the Renault-Nissan Alliance in 2013, the Kwid has been built on the CMF-A low cost platform.

Addressing the media at the New York International Motor Show, Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO, Renault-Nissan Alliance, mentioned that the CMF-A platform of the Kwid will be used to develop a mini SUV and a sedan variant. Both developments will fall under the sub 4-metre bracket to reap maximum benefits. Similar to the Kwid, the mini SUV and sedan versions will be introduced in India and other emerging markets. Ghosn also highlighted that in the coming future a low cost electric vehicle will be introduced in India.

As mentioned above, the CMF platform which stands for ‘Common Module Family’ makes use of inter-usable modules that helps manufacturers to cut down on development cost for multiple vehicle setups. In the case of the Kwid, the alliance has opted for CMF-A which refers to an affordable platform.
