Mercedes G 500 4x4² concept details out

After an image of the new Mercedes G 500 4x4² concept leaked online last week, the luxury carmaker has officially released details of the concept ahead of its public debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Billed as a ‘near-series’ concept, the model is a toned down version of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6.

This new concept features an AMG front bumper, carbon fibre flares and a roof-mounted LED light bar. The G 500 4x4² also receives stainless steel underbody guards, a side exiting exhaust and 22-inch wheels with off-road tyres. The luxury carmaker hasn’t released any pictures of the interior as of now, but has confirmed that the model will receive designo leather seats with diamond quilted Dinamica accents.

A 4.0-litre V8 engine churning out 422PS of power will run under the hood of this concept. The German carmaker has remained tight-lipped on the specifications, but has stated that the engine would meet the Euro 6 emission standards.

The luxury carmaker states that the G 500 4x4² has portal axles and a returned suspension with two spring/damper struts per wheel. Mercedes claims that one spring/damper strut works conventionally with set damper characteristics, while the other has electronically controlled adjustable damping that can be changed from comfort to sport in just 15 milliseconds.

This latest concept features approach and departure angles of 52 and 54 degrees, respectively, and it is capable of driving through 1,000mm of water.

A production variant of this concept may be done by the company if the G 500 4x4² is well received during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
