Renault begins Duster exports

After tasting success in India with the Duster, Renault has commenced its export to other countries from India. The first batch of 350 right-hand drive Dusters was despatched from the Ennore plant in Chennai.
“We created a whole new segment in the Indian automotive market with the Duster launch in July this year and demonstrated Renault’s commitment to the Indian market with the introduction of a reliable, efficient and innovative vehicle,” said Marc Nassif, MD, Renault India.

The Duster has received a positive response from Indian SUV buyers with 19,000 units sold. “India is an important market for Renault globally, with the country set to become one of the top ten markets for the company worldwide by 2013 and to sustain this ambition an unprecedented five models have been launched in the Indian market along with setting up of 75 dealerships in less than 18 months,” added Nassif.

The SUV will be available in UK and Ireland under the Dacia brand name with a four-wheel drive option as well. Modifications to meet the individual market regulations will also be done. However, in India it is currently available only in a two-wheel drive option. Powered by a 1.6-litre motor and 1.5-litre K9K oil-burner, the Duster delivers 104PS of power with the petrol and 85PS and 110PS with the diesel in different states of tune.

The company has five models on offer, namely the Pulse, Scala, Fluence, Duster and Koleos and plans to expand to 100 dealerships by the end of the year.
