India’s first Red Bull Flugtag is encouraging competitors to fly their home-made, light-weight flying machines

Red Bull Flugtag flying to Bangalore

If flying above the world fascinates you then how about flying in your own home-made air craft? Red Bull Flugtag has set its foot in India, and is encouraging participants to fly their home-made, human-powered flying machines. Bangalore will host this event and witness 37 teams across the country battle it out in a race for aerial supremacy.

This competition is popular among aviation buffs across the globe, and has a few rules that participants need to abide. Each team should consist of four people – three ground crew members and one pilot. During the competition the flying machine will be pushed from a pier located at a certain height of 22 feet, onto a water body or a sea. The team having the longest flight (measured in feet) will win. Besides the flight distance, the teams will be judged on other parameters which include creativity of the build and showmanship.

The pilot will be on board during the flight while his crew will help him achieve the longest projectile. Apart from this, the pilot who takes the plunge into the water after taking off from the ramp should be able to swim 100 metres.

Red Bull Flugtag is an international event being organised by Red Bull for over 20 years. The German translation of the term Flugtag is ‘Flight Day’. This event is scheduled to take place on September 28, at Sanky Tank in Bangalore. This is a free-to-attend public event so make sure you make the most out of your weekend.
