Volkswagen Group has witnessed an increase of six per cent in the global sales as the company retailed over 40 lakh vehicles between January to May 2014. In May alone, the company has sold approximately 8.6 lakh units and has registered a growth of 5.9 per cent.
Christian Klingler, Group Board Member for Sales, Volkswagen, said, “The Volkswagen Group brands delivered over 40 lakh vehicles for the first time in the period to May. That is an encouraging development, particularly in view of the mixed performance on world markets. Even though our Group and its brands are in an excellent position to respond to the different trends in the world regions, market demands still remain challenging.”
The German car brand has delivered a total of 10.6 lakh vehicles on the overall European market from January to May this year, of which approximately 8.6 lakh vehicles were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany). In the home market of Germany, approximately five lakh customers chose a new car from the Volkswagen Group. The German carmaker has sold approximately 3.5 lakh vehicles in the North America region from January to May this year, of which approximately 2.3 lakh vehicles were handed over in the United States.
Volkswagen Group has recorded very encouraging sales figures in the Asia-Pacific region, where 10.6 lakh vehicles were sold to customers in the period to May. China was the single-most largest market in this region, contributing to the sale of 10.5 lakh vehicles.
Breaking up the figures brand wise, VW branded vehicles sold the highest, at 20.5 lakh units, followed by Audi at 7.13 lakh units, Skoda at 4.28 lakh units, Seat at 1.62 lakh units and Porsche at 71,500 units.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered approximately 1.7 lakh units between January and May, 2014. All the numbers mentioned exclude Volkswagen MAN and Volkswagen Scania sales.
