Land Rover has introduced a hybrid version of its Range Rover Long Wheelbase at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show

Range Rover LWB Hybrid unveiled at Beijing

Land Rover revealed its Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase (LWB) at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show. It will be the first diesel hybrid from any manufacturer to be offered in China. The diesel-hybrid Range, will go on sale worldwide in May, with Land Rover expecting China to be a major market.

Setting itself apart from the standard wheelbase version, the Range Rover Hybrid LWB adds 186mm of legroom for rear passengers, and an optional executive seating package that enables the rear seats to recline up to 17 degrees.

The SUV is equipped with a 3.0-litre diesel SDV6 engine, which is coupled with a 35kw electric motor and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The hybrid pumps out a total 340PS of power and 700Nm of torque. According to Land Rover the diesel and electric power units reduce the SUV's CO2 emissions to 169g/km, which is 26 per cent lesser than the standard car.

On electronic power alone the Range Rover Hybrid can travel at speeds of up to 50kmph for a range of up to 1.5km before the diesel engine restarts. The electric motor in the new SUV also acts as a generator, which stores energy regenerated by the car’s braking, and charges the batteries when the SUV slows down.

The Range Rover Hybrid LWB that will be marketed in China is technically similar to the version sold elsewhere, except for the exhaust system which will vary to comply with respective emissions standards. Land Rover has not released pricing for the Range Rover Hybrid LWB yet.
