A year after the project was announced, the Lotus C-01, a motorcycle, has finally been unveiled in production form. But, only 100 of these will be made

After releasing a teaser image of an upcoming motorcycle last year, its maker has now unveiled the Lotus C-01. But, unlike what the name suggests, it isn’t a two-wheeler creation from the iconic car manufacturer.  The C-01 has been engineered and built under license by German car racing team Kodewa and tuning firm Holzer Group (co-owners of Kalex).  The C-01 has been designed by Daniel Simon. He has previously designed Bugattis and was also the pen behind the stunning Lightcycles in the 2010 Hollywood sci-fi flick ‘Tron: Legacy’. His wicked and edgy sense of styling can be easily seen on the new bike.

Speaking about the project Kodewa’s Dr Colin Kolles said, “We set out to create a bike that isn’t just great to ride but also represents a piece of art in motion. Over the years I have seen my fair share of style over substance. But, what this bike brings to the market is a unique combination of both: state of the art technology with truly jaw-dropping aesthetics.”

The C-01’s body has been created by integrating carbon fibre, titanium and aerospace quality steel to keep it as light-weight as possible and it tips the scale at just 181kg. Firepower is provided by a 1195cc, V-twin engine sourced from the KTM RC8R, which has been tuned further to produce in excess of 200PS. The bike will be available in a range of liveries, which have been inspired from various Lotus motorsport cars. Also the bike can be spec’d to the whim of the buyer, as customisation service is also available. The C-01 will be limited to just 100 units and although prices haven’t been announced, this special bike wouldn’t be cheap by any means.
