Unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo, Aprilia has commenced the manufacturing of the SR 150 scooter in India

Aprilia, a fully owned marquee of the Piaggio Group, had unveiled the SR 150 scooter in India for the first time at the 2016 Auto Expo. Now, sources close to the company have confirmed that production of the SR 150 has commenced at Piaggio’s Baramati plant where the Vespa scooters are also built. With this new development, the scooter is now expected to hit the market by August 2016.

The Aprilia SR 150 will borrow its powertrain from the Vespa 150 that registers a peak power figure of 12PS in its original guise. The motor is bound to be further tweaked by Aprilia to produce more power to be in sync with its sportier intent. Expect the automatic transmission on the SR 150 to also return better acceleration figures, especially from standstill. Suspension duties will be handled by long travel telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The SR 150 will sport 14-inch alloy wheels with 120/70 section tyres at both ends. Stopping duties will be handled by a 220mm disc brake unit at the front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear.

Considering how Aprilia is a premium brand that predominantly leans towards sporty and high quality products, the SR 150 will also follow in the same mould. The Aprilia SR 150 sports twin headlamps in the front fairing, and the rest of the bodywork is accentuated by its sharp and edgy contours. The turn indicators have been positioned on the handlebar. The instrumental cluster is a twin pod unit with an analogue speedometer and fuel gauge.

Aprilia will be offering the SR 150 in two colour options, both of which were on display at the Expo. The Aprilia SR 150 is expected to be priced around Rs 90k to Rs 1 lakh when launched. The Aprilia SR 150 will be the most expensive automatic scooter to be made in India.
