The 2017 Porsche 911 RSR is the angriest 911 in a while, and will race in the 24-hour Le Mans GTE category

2017 Porsche 911 GTE Racer

The Le Mans GTE category will see the introduction of an all-new 911 GTE racer. This 2017 version is the successor of the current 911 RSR (type 991 - the codename for this body type). For the unversed, the Le Mans GTE is part of the World Endurance Championship, in which some of the hottest GT cars are raced for 24 hours straight in their unearthly production based race versions. A few to name are 2016 BMW M3 GT2, Aston Martin Vantage GT2/GTE (love this one!), Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, Ferrari 458 Italia GT2 (Google this one up!) and so on.

Coming back to the Porsche, yes, the new race car looks very mean and angry, but to tease us the factory team has only released the pictures of the front as of now. Pretty unfair, come on, Porsche, show us the rear, we want to see that large diffuser and the wing, don’t we? However, the front view image showcases the matt black finish of this GTE racer and that alone is enough drool material for now. It also carries a much lower stance compared to the production version, scooped hood, and a wide flat stick-out front splitter. The car naturally uses carbon-fibre extensively to keep the weight down and the strength up.

The factory race team hasn’t revealed any specifications regarding the car’s engine. Nevertheless, we already know that it will be using a tweaked version of the flat-six which is sure to produce some insane power figures. To keep the power effectively down the 2017 911 GTE uses wider racing rubber that sits under massively flared wheel arches.

To make sure that the car is ready for the gruesome 24-hour challenge, Porsche is racing the vehicle on different race tracks across the globe. Do watch out for the car in the 2017 season as we'll keep you posted.
