The Panamera, the German manufacturer’s only four-seater that is not an SUV, has been revealed in its latest avatar. The second-generation Panamera is here to wow you and looks better than the current car, not to mention the significant rise in technology it implements in its underpinnings and in the cockpit. Yes, we have seen the car’s exterior from its recently leaked images, but now we have all the specifications.
The 2017 Panamera receives a subtle yet very impressive exterior upgrade. The current generation of the Panamera has been trolled, at times, for the way it looks. Well, it seems that Porsche has taken the feedback (or might I say rant?) in a positive way and has executed the current car's design appropriately. For starters, the humpbacked roofline has been toned down by 20mm into a sleeker tail section, which flaunts an LED light bar running across the breadth of the rear only to meet the taillights on either side – a trend that is getting popular among automakers.
The tail section has more than the rear lamps to showcase. The retractable rear spoiler on the Panamera turbo seems to take its inspiration from the transforming sword of Optimus Prime, from ‘The Transformers.’ Do take a look at the Panamera’s promo video on Porsche’s official channel.
The front bumper is gappier and looks way more contemporary than the old car. The headlamps get signature Porsche DRLs along with a new headlamp projector layout. The sides, too, feature a sleeker profile, newly carved side rear-view mirrors and a new set wheels – of course, there are plenty of options when it comes to the wheels.
Inside of the Panamera are new, uber luxurious interiors that will leave you impressed. It retains the characteristic Porsche interior layout. However, the interiors are smoothed out to look very futuristic. The cockpit takes digitisation to the next level with two seven-inch screens on either side of the tachometer dial, which is still an analogue clock type unit, in the instrument cluster. While a 12.3-inch display finds home in the central console. It doesn't end here, as rear passengers, too, get a dedicated central touchscreen on the central tunnel.
Under the hood, the Panamera is available with three engine options with two being V6s and a V8. The V6 is available in both petrol and diesel choices, with the former producing 440PS, while the diesel puts out 422PS of power and 850NM of torque. The top of the line V8 motor puts out a top whack of 550PS. To put all of these figures down, the Panamera will get a standard all-wheel-drive system across all the models. In addition to these, one can also opt for rear wheel steering, air suspensions, etc. for added handling characteristics.
Speaking of the prices and launch, the Panamera could be priced around Rs 1.4 crore and could make it to India sometime in 2017.
