Plug-in hybrids are most certainly the foreseeable future of motoring worldwide. With the demands to make cars more powerful while at the same time making them even more economical in terms of fuel usage, it is only a matter of time till most automobiles in the world come standard with this type of powertrain.

But it is not only the commuter car manufacturers that have started offering this option in their cars, supercar manufacturers too offer a conventional internal combustion engine mated to an electric motor package. The Porsche 918 Spyder, the McLaren P1 and the LaFerrari are all examples of the same. Porsche though, will soon introduce the same plug-in hybrid technology that it offers in the 918 Spyder in their more mass markets offerings, the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne SUV.

The Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid will be the world’s first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment. Alongside the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the company will also present model updates of the Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo, Cayenne Diesel and Cayenne S Diesel in Paris. All new models will feature increased efficiency, even more precise handling, updated design and an extensive list of standard equipment.

Porsche claims that the Cayenne S E-Hybrid will be capable of fuel economy figures of about 29.4kmpl and CO2 emissions of a mere 79 grams per kilometre, both very impressive figures for a SUV the size of the Cayenne. Together with the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the 918 Spyder, the Stuttgart based sports car manufacturer is the only brand to offer three plug-in models.
