Porsche has finally announced the details for the base model Macan. The Macan, in its cheapest form, will come with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, which makes a respectable 239PS, and 350Nm of peak torque. Porsche claims the Macan 2.0 will go from 0-100kmph in 6.9 seconds. The new engine also marks the return of Porsche to a 4-cylinder layout after nearly 20 years, the last being the Porsche 968.
The Porsche Macan 2.0 will not get most of the goodies that the Macan S and the Macan Turbo come with. These include the Porsche Active Suspension Management and the park assist system as well as some internal and external trim. The Porsche Macan 2.0 will look almost similar to the other variants on the outside with the exception to the badge, which will state only ‘Macan’ as opposed to ‘Macan S’ or ‘Macan Turbo’.
The base model Porsche Macan will be equipped with dual tail pipe setup with only a single pipe on each side and black accents as opposed to chrome or body colored ones available on the higher spec cars. That said, the Porsche Macan 2.0 would come standard with 18-inch wheels with upgradable options. Just like with other models, buyers will be offered a long list of optional extras, which could allow them to spec their cars to their personal preferences.
As we mentioned in our official test drive and review of the Porsche Macan, when it does make its way to India in a few months will cost about Rs 90 lakh for the diesel version and over Rs 1 crore for the top of the line Macan Turbo. If Porsche intends to bring the Macan 2.0 to India, they might have to homologate the car due to its smaller engine capacity and point of origin pricing. That said, it does make sense bringing the Macan 2.0-litre to India, as it will be considerably cheaper than the diesel powered Macan S. We expect Porsche India to price the Macan 2.0 at about Rs 75-80 lakh to take on the likes of the Range Rover Evoque.
