Back in April, Peugeot had set many eyes rolling at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show when it pulled the wraps off its five-door saloon concept car, the Exalt. The French car brand has once again geared up to set the podium on fire at the Paris Motor Show with its Peugeot Exalt Concept, but this time with some subtle new tweaks.
The new concept car is 4,700mm long and sits low with a height of 1,310mm. The Euro-spec Exalt concept combines the bare steel body work of the original Beijing show car with a new grey-coloured ‘shark skin’ rear end. The French carmaker explains the shape-shifting shark skin, a slippery bio-engineered textile, will help to improve the aerodynamic performance of the car due to its grain structure.
The interiors of the Peugeot Exalt Concept exude a premium feel. The updated Exalt concept trades ebony trim for ‘Newspaper Wood’, which is made from recycled newspapers, and swaps carbon fibre for basalt fibre, a natural composite.
Another interesting feature of the Peugeot Exalt is the innovative air treatment system called Pure Blue, which emits bactericides and fungicides to purify the cabin surfaces when the vehicle is stationary and unoccupied. Once the vehicle is moving, an active filter treats the air before it enters the cabin, eliminating volatile organic compounds (VOC) and fine particles.
A RCZ R-sourced 1.6-litre, four-cylinder THP turbocharged gasoline engine delivering 270PS of power and 300Nm of torque works in conjunction with a 50kW electric motor mounted on the multi-link rear axle. It provides the Exalt concept with a combined output of 340PS of power which is delivered to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The updated Peugeot Exalt concept will debut in Paris on October 2.
