Porsche AG posts 38.7% growth in November, breaks 2011 sales record

German super sports car maker Porsche AG said it has already zoomed past last year's sales numbers, with a month to spare, helped by soaring deliveries in November. It sold 1,28,978 vehicles worldwide in January to November 2012, posting a 17.6% growth over 2011.

Led by the third generation of Porsche Boxster, which is in high demand internationally, November sales rose 38.7% to 12,928 vehicles. Around 1,200 roadster models were sold in the month, a nearly three-fold increase over last year. Also, the classic sports car Porsche 911 Carrera is enjoying a stupendous run and about 2,019 vehicles were delivered to customers-almost double of last year.

Demand in November was highest from the US where 3,865 vehicles were delivered, representing an increase of 71.4%. In the second largest Porsche market, China, sales rose 63.4% to 2,919 vehicles.

"Our current product initiative has continuously improved the attractiveness of the Porsche brand in 2012," said Bernhard Maier, member of the executive board sales and marketing of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. "The fact that we have already surpassed the previous year's result in November is no reason for us to rest on our laurels."

For Porsche, India is still a very small contributor. The Indian arm sold a record 117 cars in a month in October of 2012, which was followed by 51 cars in November, according to the data released by industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association.
