To mark its anniversary, Polaris hosted an off-roading event

Polaris Ranger RZR

Powersports vehicle maker Polaris has completed a year in the Indian automobile market during which time it has taken part in and hosted a number of off-road events to showcase their all-terrain vehicles.

To mark its anniversary, Polaris hosted celebrations at Camp Wild in Faridabad, Haryana that included off-roading. Polaris India Managing Director Pankaj Dubey was on hand to play the gracious host. He expressed satisfaction over the fact that Polaris India has achieved its sales targets. The company’s expansion plans in India are on track, with the inauguration of its newest dealership in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

On to the off-roading. I buckled myself into a Ranger RZR, fired it up and the sound of the engine indicated its capabilities. I put the automatic gearbox into D, selected four-wheel drive and set off. The path to the off-road location had a tarmac section and the Ranger RZR quickly gathered speed. The buggy’s light weight combined with the high revving 760cc fuel injected engine that churns out 53PS of power can catapult the Polaris Ranger RZR from 0-100km/h in about 4.5 seconds and that’s proper sportscar territory!

The fleet of Polaris Rangers and Sportsman ATVs even managed to scare off some cows off our path. Off the road, the Polaris Ranger RZR comes into its own. Its adjustable Dual A-Arm suspension up front and independent rear suspension cushioned the sharp bumps on the rocky path. The suspension irons out everything and even huge boulders were taken in stride.

Carry decent speed into a corner and give it a bootful and the RZR kicks out its rear wheels even in four-wheel drive! Apply the right amount of steering correction and you can go into an awesome powerslide. Thanks to the anti-lock brakes, even on loose gravel the wheels manage to find enough traction and bring the vehicle to a halt without drama.

We headed deeper into the bush on narrow paths, traversing potholes, mud, and deep water that flooded the passenger compartment but drained out quickly. Steep inclines and hillocks, the Ranger RZR tackled with ease thanks to its short wheelbase and long travel suspension without bottoming out.

Polaris vehicles are tailor-made for off-roading is my verdict after my experience with the Polaris Ranger RZR, a must for off-road enthusiasts.
