PSA Peugeot Citroen quits Le Mans

Peugeot Le Mans

With regard to the current economic turmoil in Europe and its upcoming car launches, PSA Peugeot Citroen has decided to pull out of the Le Mans race. The French car manufacturer aims to concentrate on the launches of the 208, 3008 HYbrid4, 508 RXH, 508 HYbrid4 and 4008. Despite the financial crunch, Peugeot is still the second largest car manufacturer in Europe.

In the Le Mans context, Peugeot claimed 14 victories in the last 16 races including two consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011. It also took top spot in the Le Mans 24 Hours with the 908 HDi FAP in 2009.

Although Audi has won the legendary race seven times in the last eight years, Peugeot has proved to be a tough rival to the German car maker at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Although Peugeot has withdrawn from the 24 hours of Le Mans, its sister concern Citroen will still be part of the World Rally Championship.
