Renault Eolab concept revealed

Renault has pulled the wraps off its new concept car – the Renault Eolab which will make its first public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The French carmaker claims that its new car features 100 technical innovations that could be realistically incorporated into production vehicles over the next 10 or so years.

The Eolab is a Renault Clio-size car with seating for four people. The concept car has asymmetrically laid out doors, with two doors on the passenger’s side and just one larger door on the driver’s side of the car. The French carmaker has crafted an aerodynamic exterior with a drag coefficient of 0.235, which helps the Renault Eolab to achieve claimed fuel-efficiency figures of 100kmpl.

This new show car has an active front spoiler, active rear flaps and active wheel covers which open to cool the brakes and close to reduce drag. The concept also has an active suspension which automatically adjusts the ride height to minimise drag.

The Renault Eolab concept is powered by a ZE Hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, a 6.7 kWh battery and a clutchless three-gear transmission with an integrated electric motor. The engine churns out 75PS of power and 95Nm of torque, while the electric motor delivers 68PS of power and 200Nm of torque. The car delivers claimed fuel-efficiency figures of 100kmpl and is capable of electric-only motoring for up to 60km.

The Eolab concept weighs 900kg, which according to the French carmaker, is 400kg lesser than the Renault Clio. Thanks, to the multi-material body shell constructed out of steel, aluminum and composites which helps in keeping the car’s weight low. The concept also has a magnesium roof, ultra-thin windscreen glass and a lightweight interior which further help to achieve the same goal.

We will get you more details of this concept car once it is unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
