Jaguar showcased the 2016 F-Type with AWD and a manual gearbox for the LA Auto Show

Jaguar F-Type AWD at the LA Auto Show

What a sensation the Jaguar F-Type has been since its launch. First the convertible and then the Coupe, the F-Type is already well established by now for its stunning design, addictive engine note and playful handling. But the folks at Jaguar aren’t taking it easy. Jaguar has at the LA Auto Show showcased the first AWD F-Type that will go on sale next year.

The AWD comes as standard on the 558PS V8 F-Type R models while on the V6 385PS variants, it is an optional extra. The AWD system sends all power to the rear wheels in default mode but can send up to 50 percent of it to the front wheels when it senses the need. This should maintain its fun to drive character intact but the added traction will also make the F-Type a blisteringly fast car to tear up corners in. Only disadvantage is an added 80kg in weight in the AWD models. Visually, the F-Type AWD gets body coloured sills and a new bonnet design.

The F-Type will also get a six speed manual transmission option for the V6 rear wheel drive variants in the 2016 model. It is marginally lighter than the automatic unit. In addition, all F-Type models get electric power steering, but to maintain the hydraulic unit’s connected feel, the car gets a stiff steering shaft. The LA Auto Show marks extensive additions to the capable F-Type range as a whole.
