Nissan to recall made-in-India Micra cars

The Japanese car maker is recalling nearly 2.5 lakh cars globally of which 9,600 units are the Micra hatchback. Indian consumers can rest easy as the move will not impact them

Of the total global recall of 2.5 lakh units, over 9,600 Micra cars were produced at Nissan's Chennai plant and sold in Europe.

According to Nissan, the fuel rail pressure sensor used in direct injection engines of some Micra models may have a problem, prompting the company to replace the sensors.



Launched in mid-July 2010, this cute looking hatchback offers a stylish outlook, frugal driving and the benefits of a compact car all in one. Available in five variants at a price range of Rs. 4.13 lakh to Rs. 6.29 lakh (both petrol and diesel, ex-showroom Delhi) the Nissan Micra is one of the toughest competitors in the tightly-packed hatchback segment.

Fortunately for Indian owners, the Micra cars sold in the country are not part of this recall campaign. This isn't the first time Nissan has issued a recall. Just last week, the company announced toThe recall of 2,49,522 vehicles of comprise seven different models across the world due to a loose sensor that could cause fuel leaks if not checked sold between January 25 and December 29, 2011. The models included the Serena, Patrol, Infiniti M and Infiniti QX that were produced in Japan, . The recall will also cover the Juke from Japan and Britain, the China-made Tiida and the Micra- made in India.

Other manufacturers who have issued recalls in the recent past include Japanese carmakers Toyota and Honda. While Toyota recalled a total of 41,000 units of its Etios and Liva models to replace faulty inlet pipe to the fuel tank, Honda recalled over 72,000 units of its mid-size sedan, the City, to replace defective power window switches.
