Nissan sold 23,642 vehicles during the 6-month period, as opposed to 12,570 units in the corresponding period in 2011. A large part of these sales have been attributed to Nissan’s flagship offering in the hatchback segment – the Micra, and the highly popular sedan – the Nissan Sunny. The heavy-duty X-Trail SUV, the Teana luxury sedan, and the Nissan 370Z sports car make up the rest of the sales.
Commenting on the sales performance, Nitish Tipnis, Director-Marketing & Sales, Hover Automotive India (HAI), the firm that exclusively handles distribution for Nissan in India, said, “Our overall sales volume trend is extremely encouraging and we anticipate increased demand following our recently launched festive offers wherein a customer has a weekly opportunity to get refund on the purchase and winning 500 grams of gold.”
Nissan Motor India Managing Director Takayuki Ishida also commented on the numbers saying, “Nissan remains very well-placed for another successful year in India based on the strength of our products and continuing expansion of the business.”
Nissan looks to further boost sales in future with the newly launched Evalia MPV, the third vehicle by the car maker to be indigenously manufactured in the country. The company also recently introduced a limited-edition Micra ‘Primo’ as an ode to actor Ranbir Kapoor completing two years of endorsement of the small car. The special edition Micra comes with enhanced aesthetics, an upgraded sound system, and additional features such as parking sensors and remote controlled rear view mirrors.
