Car maker Nissan Motor India on Monday said it has hiked prices of its small car Micra by up to Rs 11,170 with immediate effect to offset the pressure of rising input costs. "The hike will be applicable to both petrol and diesel versions and will be in the range of Rs 2,500 (0.5 per cent) to Rs 11,170 (2 per cent)," the company said in a statement.
The existing ex-showroom, Delhi, prices of the petrol version of Micra varies between Rs 4.06 lakh and Rs 4.36 lakh, while the diesel car is available for Rs 5.59 lakh-Rs 6.05 lakh. The company, however, did not raise the prices of its imported models such as sports utility vehicle X-Trail, luxury sedan Teana and sports car 370Z, it added.
Commenting on the development, Nissan Motor India Managing Director and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama said: "There has been a steady increase in the input cost over a period of time. It has come to a situation now that the price hike is inevitable and we have decided to increase the price of Micra."
In this month, many auto makers have raised the prices of their products on account of rising commodity rates. The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India increased prices of its vehicles across all models between Rs 1,100 to Rs 9,000 for similar reasons.
Homegrown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra raised prices of its entire range of vehicles by up to Rs 15,000. Tata Motors has also hiked prices of its passenger vehicles by up to Rs 36,000 from April 1. Another big car maker Hyundai Motor India is also mulling taking a similar step.
