The carmaker has discontinued the production of its Evalia MPV in the country due to poor demand for the model

Nissan Evalia production halts in India

Nissan India has decided to halt the production of Evalia – its only MPV plying on the Indian roads. This news does not come in as a surprise as the Evalia has been performing poorly ever since its launch and failed to rake in profit numbers for the company. The carmaker will not produce any additional units of the MPV, but will continue to market and sell the Evalia to clear the existing inventory.

Nissan Evalia was launched in India back in 2012. The MPV, however, was a no crowd puller and managed to sell only 2,412 units ever since, according to reports. One of the prime reasons of its failure was its boxy styling which did not appeal to the Indian buyers.

To spoof life into the dying MPV, Nissan even launched its facelift, but that, too, failed to strike the right chord with the Indian buyers. To avoid further losses, the carmaker decided to suspend the production of the Evalia.

It would be interesting to note that, Ashok Leyland's Stile that was also built on the same Evalia platform was also withdrawn from the market this May.

The Nissan Evalia comes equipped with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder K9K engine which churns out 85PS of power and 200Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. With ARAI certified mileage of 19.3kmpl, this MPV comes with safety features such as air bag, Electronic Brake-force Distribution system (EBD) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

Recommended Variant : Evalia XL (Opt)
